A late Georgian tea caddy with canted corners. Much decorated outside and inside with conch shell panel to the front and musical panel to the lid. The lid shows the faint marks of a ring handle (see photos). With boxwood and ebony lined borders on the front and sides. Inside are two compartments with decorated lids, the starburst design is echoed in the lid. Superb ivory knobs to match the escutcheon. Tiny remnants of lead foil to the compartments and under the lids. Original woven wool cloth to the base. The mahogany has a lovely warm nut brown colour. Has a Georgian key but the lock does not work. Measures 8 5/8″ x 4 3/4″ x 5″. SOLD.
