Description

An early Georgian chest of drawers on bun feet. Dating from the 1720’s or George the first, and in sturdy condition. Mostly solid oak with decorative mahogany cross banding to all the drawers. Beading to the drawer edges and with later handles and escutcheons. The bun feet were more typical of the previous Queen Anne era. There are two drawers above three long drawers. The top two drawers are missing their locks. The drawers are graduated, a nice touch.
The sides are quarter sawn oak showing the medullary rays in sunlight. This chest has an attractive nut brown colour. The oak top has character from much use over hundreds of years. The back consists of the original three elm boards. Measuring 35″ high x 38″ wide x 20 3/4″ deep. A good example of early Georgian chest.
