Description
An Indian sadeli jewellery box on little bone feet. This sandlewood box is veneered in dark hardwood with intricate micro mosaic geometric patterns in sadeli work. Sadeli work craftsmanship was highly prized and is now a dying art. The minute tiles are made of pewter, dyed green and natural bone. A few tiles are missing but not easily noticed amongst the busy pattern. The construction is sound, including the hinges and feet. Boxes with the original feet are now harder to find. The interior has a red cotton velvet inside the lid and there is a lock but no key. Measuring 11″ long x 4 1/8″ x 2 1/8″. A very original box.
